I thought your work was done with great quality. A lot of effort is evident in here. Your character analysis is great and I enjoyed reading through diaries. You categorized the sections, which was convenient and overall, the character analysis has got to be the best of your work. Your analysis of setting was very descriptive and provided a good understanding of how language and time connected like puzzle blocks. I would have liked it if you were to convey some more information on how exactly the language spoken linked to the time period and what made it interesting for you to read. Your most memorable moment was very well done as well. The connection was strong and the theme you pulled out was going beyond expectations so well done!

Your work is definitely noticeable for your diction. That really stood out for me and made the experience better right from the start. To start off, your most memorable moment was excellent. You explained the moment but you lacked one thing; a deeper explanation to WHY you found the memory to be the most memorable memory. My favorite piece from you has to be your contemporary relevance. It was so thorough, had so much information and logic and was all too true.  It was well written and I really do like this piece especially. I would have liked it better if you connected it to the book in some way though. The character analysis was good too but I feel you could have done more better on the journals, they had too little information in my eyes.

1. I think Edmond hid his identity because of many reasons. First of all, if he had revealed himself as Edmond Dantes, people would know that he had either been released or has escaped by some means and the State could eventually have their ears seek out the rumors of his whereabouts and eventually catch him. Second, he could attract too much unwanted attention to himself. Edmond was already remembered greatly as the man of misfortune and should he have come back, people would wonder and ask of his life in imprisonment. Third, he wanted to begin a new life, or part of one at least which would allow him to stay lowkey while he tryies to avenge himself.
4. The remaining targets are Villefort and Danglars. Edmond plans to use Andrea to destroy Danglars. As for Villefort, Edmond seems to have the most hate for him so this is on whom he will probably strike the hardest. Edmond has been told that 2 of his sevents also have something against Villefort so he would seem more furious that Villefort has managed to enrage his friends too. I’m almost completely sure thought that Edmond will not kill Villefort for Edmond is a very holy and religious man so that would go against his belief.

5.     I think it means a lot of things. Should a man be patient enough and struggle through even the most hardest of times, he can receive happiness after it. Should a man remain hopeful and true to his faith, he will be able to pull through and see his days grow happier than before. Without patience, a man can grow wild and be desperate for his desire of happiness that he may go well out of his way and could cause destruction to himself and others. Without hope, a man can grow weary and becomes blind to all the light that is shone upon him, until he is referenced as a mad man and he gets mad ideas like suicide. With these two qualities, a man becomes a master of happiness, and can be happy through even the toughest of times.

1. I  think he took pity because of the same reason people pitied Edmond. Edmond was about to be married and have a good life but then a misfortune occurred. For Mercedes, she was about to marry the man she loved, but then he was imprisoned, never to see her ever again. He also pitied her because she didn’t deserve to have her life like that.

Your character analysis is very detailed, and it is helpful that the analysis was broken up into separate sections. The quotes you included fit the characters as well. Additionally, your questions were thought-provoking and interesting to think about. Your most memorable moment was described in detail, and you gave good reasons as to why it was so memorable. Your analysis of setting shows that you found most of the details regarding the culture and mindsets of people at the time. However, it did not state the influence Napoleon and Bonapartisim had on the story. Finally, your analysis of diction points out all the major details in the translated work’s writing style.

1.            If Dantes had not used these aliases, the men he wished to take revenge on would have known who he was. If they knew that Dante’s had escaped prison, they likely would have either hid form or dealt with him. Even if they hadn't done these things, it would have certainly made it much harder for Dante’s to exact his revenge. Additionally, the mysteriousness surrounding him would have not been there, and he would not have been so popular. His aliases also allowed him to work with other groups of people who he otherwise could not have, such as bandits and sailors. With these changes to the plot, had Dantes not taken up his aliases, most of the story would not have happened.

 2.           In the earlier stages of his plan to have his revenge, Dantes remains cold and unfeeling towards his enemies. However, he begins to feel remorse towards them later on. This interferes with his mission, as he starts to doubt his motives, and even allows Albert to live when Mercedes begs him to. He realizes that his remorse is getting in the way of his revenge. He curses himself for having such emotions, as he made the resolution to dedicate his life to gaining his vengeance.

1. I think the count takes pity on her because they had a strong, loving relationship and without feeling sorrowful for Dantes she marries another man forgetting abut all that they have been through. Also Dantes complains that he has waited so long in prison thinkimg about her and she turns her back on him by marrying his enemy.

2. What Dantes means by this is to let things be and not to interfere with God's work and his plan. We see that Dantes turns to God in the prison because he has no where else to turn to. He belives that there is hope and he is in the right hands believing that he is doing what is right and just: getting revenge. This tells us that this is his belief because he  says "all human wisdom".

I think you could've organized your writing better maybe with subtitles to state exactly what's going to be in a paragraph. Your character analysis was really good, especially your writing in role. It really got into his personality, goals, and interest, but most of your sentences begin with "I have" or "I am" and that makes it seem like your stating the qualities.

Your questions were mainly plot based, but you at least included one question that had an analysis and opinion.

I like how you related with a main theme of the story, revenge, to problems that happen in modern day. It brings up some valid points about society and their idea of "payback" at least in an adolescent perspective.

You did an amazing job in your character analysis. I liked how you used effective quotes to supports your view on the character. Your analysis of setting seemed like you put a good amount of effort on how the different times and places reflected the story. Your speech analysis seemed was an eye opener and introduced me to some facts that i didn't know. My only concern was that your questions were difficult to expand on.

1. I think Edmond hid his identity because if people found out that he has escaped prison then they will know that he is that man. The story would have been different because his enemies would have known who he was a they would try to kill him and prevent anything of happening to them.

2. In this quote tells us that Edmond realizes the wrong of trying to get revenge on Mercedes also because she called Dantes a noble man and thanks him. He regrets making the decision of plotting a plan of revenge and vengeance. This quote tells us that Edmond is also two faces and feels trapped at this point in his decisions and motives.

4. Monte Cristo brought Maximilian near death before re-introducing him to Valentine because he wanted to test his devotion. Monte Cristo wanted to know if he was truly devoted to Valentine, and even offered to trade his whole fortune for Maximilian to live. In order for Monte Cristo to test his resolve, he must've been put in a state of deep despair. This idea was further explained in one of his final quotes.

"There is no such thing as happiness or unhappiness in the world, he explains, but only the comparison of one state with another. Only a man who has felt ultimate despair is capable of feeling ultimate bliss. It is necessary to have wished for death, Maximilian, in order to know how good it is to live." (Dumas, 531)

5. Monte Cristo was a deeply religious man that believed everything done was out of God's will. Knowing this, I think the quote means that only God and fate can tell you what will happen, so we should just wait and hope that what happens is a good thing. God is who would decide whether a good or bad thing will occur to you. Also, karma may be an important theme. The targets were evil and greedy, and decided to get ride of Edmond for their own desires, and they were eventually punished.
