ANDY
1. I think Edmond hid his identity because of many reasons. First of all, if he had revealed himself as Edmond Dantes, people would know that he had either been released or has escaped by some means and the State could eventually have their ears seek out the rumors of his whereabouts and eventually catch him. Second, he could attract too much unwanted attention to himself. Edmond was already remembered greatly as the man of misfortune and should he have come back, people would wonder and ask of his life in imprisonment. Third, he wanted to begin a new life, or part of one at least which would allow him to stay lowkey while he tryies to avenge himself.
4. The remaining targets are Villefort and Danglars. Edmond plans to use Andrea to destroy Danglars. As for Villefort, Edmond seems to have the most hate for him so this is on whom he will probably strike the hardest. Edmond has been told that 2 of his sevents also have something against Villefort so he would seem more furious that Villefort has managed to enrage his friends too. I’m almost completely sure thought that Edmond will not kill Villefort for Edmond is a very holy and religious man so that would go against his belief.

5. I think it means a lot of things. Should a man be patient enough and struggle through even the most hardest of times, he can receive happiness after it. Should a man remain hopeful and true to his faith, he will be able to pull through and see his days grow happier than before. Without patience, a man can grow wild and be desperate for his desire of happiness that he may go well out of his way and could cause destruction to himself and others. Without hope, a man can grow weary and becomes blind to all the light that is shone upon him, until he is referenced as a mad man and he gets mad ideas like suicide. With these two qualities, a man becomes a master of happiness, and can be happy through even the toughest of times.
1. I think he took pity because of the same reason people pitied Edmond. Edmond was about to be married and have a good life but then a misfortune occurred. For Mercedes, she was about to marry the man she loved, but then he was imprisoned, never to see her ever again. He also pitied her because she didn’t deserve to have her life like that.
