2. I think Caderousse murdered his wife alongside the jeweler because she treated him terribly and he didn't want any witnesses. In the book, Caderousse's wife would always nag him and push him to do decisions he didn't want to do or think was right. Also, Caderousse was a greedy man that wanted money, if he kept his wife alive, he would have to share the money with her because they were a married couple. With his wife out of the picture, he could keep all the money for himself. Secondly, Caderousse was committing a crime. If his wife survived, he would have to run away with the women who could constantly nag at him and be forced to share his money with her. Both of them would have been sent to prison, instead of just Caderousse.

4. I think the count doesn't want to push the relationship into marriage because that may but Haydee in danger with Monte Cristo's plans. In the novel, there was still a possibility of the targets becoming suspicious and investigating more about Monte Cristo. For example, Villefort sent one of his servants to find out everything about the count's past because he grew suspicious. Haydee could be used as a target or as blackmail against Monte Cristo if they were married. The commitment could be postponed for the safety and well-being of Haydee.

1. There were four people responsible for Edmond's imprisonment, Danglers, Fernand, Caderousse, and Villefort. Danglers was simply jealous of Edmond for being the future captain of the Pharoan, and wanted him imprisoned so that he could take on that role. Fernand wanted to get rid of Edmond because he was the fiancé of the woman Fernand loved, Mercedes. Caderousse was Edmond's neighbour, and was part of this because he wanted to help Danglers. Villefort had Edmond imprisoned because he held a letter sent to his father, Noirtier, and was scared that his family's treasonous activities would be found out.

4. Villefort originally planned to set Edmond free because his character seemed honest and open. It was until Edmond brought up his secret mission to deliver a letter to his father. Villefort was worried that their family honor would be hurt because of their past activities would seem treasonous. For the sake of his family and his own well being, Villefort sent Edmond away to prison for the rest of his life.
