1. The Count wants to claim revenge on the
men who had him imprisoned wrongly. He wants to impose his years of suffering
on the people who caused it. After
having carefully created his plans, he unleashes his vengeance on those who had
caused him so much pain. He feels as if he needs to claim justice for himself,
and that the only way he can do this is by having his revenge. Alternatively,
he justifies his actions by telling himself that they were made in the name of
justice.
3. It is likely that The Count acts so
coldly to Villefort because The Count knows that he had played a large part in
The Count’s arrest. If The Count were to be too open to Villefort, he could
face the risk of revealing his plans of vengeance to him. Additionally, The
Count isn’t particularly fond of Villefort, after what he had did to him, so it
is understandable that The Count would be cold to Villefort.
