1 1. The people responsible for Dantes arrest were
Danglers, Caderousse and Fernand. Danglers was a part of the crew of the
Pharaon and didn’t see it fit that Dantes should be captain. So out of envy, he
helped take him down. Caderousse doesn’t
really have a reason and he was drunk when he was conspiring against Dantes .
Fernand, like Danglars, envied Dantes. Fernand loved Mercedes, the girl Dantes
was about to marry so he had helped with the downfall of Dantes.

Dantes changes greatly in prison. Under the darkness of his cell he
learns to use his hearing and seeing better so he can react like a coyote would
towards his prey. He becomes desperate at times and sees fit the idea of
suicide to end his life in imprisonment. Although he had thoughts like that and
attempted few, he didn’t follow through with them and realize how dishonorable
he would be remembered as. He becomes even more resourceful than he would have
been in his past life as a sailor. He was extremely patient and waited always
for the opportune time. He also decided to team up with his neighbor Faria and
plot on how to escape so they can get to a treasure. The treasure becomes the
drive for Edmond and Faria dies of a strange disease. Overall, the jail time
Dantes ahd received may have been long, but have given so many improvements to
the person Edmond Dantes.
