First Impressions - Mustafa

From the first few chapters, I have gathered enough knowledge about this book to tell the basic key points.  The book is well written and has an evident amount of detail to describe the area as if you really are there in Marseilles in the 1800’s. The book starts with the Pharaon, a ship captained by Leclere, a well-respected captain. Leclere died due to brain fever on the way back. The crew brought upon this ill news about the captain. The ship-owner, Monsieur Morrel who is a highly respected and very generous person, considers a new captain for the Pharaon now that Leclere is dead. Morrel chooses Edmond Dantes as a suitable choice. I really like Edmond Dantes because he’s not power hungry and is very reliable for work. But there is a problem: Danglers( a partner of Morrel) has got to agree with this idea as well. Danglers absolutely hates Dantes and I absolutely hate Danglers. Danglers is a fake person, a man behind a mask. There is absolutely no reason to dislike Dantes, he’s done nothing wrong and has no intent to wrongly use his power.
Another person that I dislike is Caderousse who took money from Dantes’ dad when he was in time of need and was seeking to cause a ruckus by trying to infuriate Fernand, the man who is trying to win Mercedes’ heart over from Dantes. Fernand is plotting something and I expect he’s going to pull something off but even at the betrothal feast (for Edmond and Mercedes), he doesn’t do anything. Instead, Edmond gets arrested for something I have yet to figure out. This can obviously not be pulled off by Fernand because he is a man of little power. It seems to be that Danglers must have done something. It’s very much possible he bribed the guards to arrest him.
I’ve got to say, this book is very interesting. The setting intrigues me very much because it’s close to the sea. So far I’ve come to think that the subject of this will be related to pirates since it is of that time period and involves a ship that is captained by the main character. I’m not having difficulty deciphering the words because I have read most of The Hobbit and I am used to using context clues to understand what a word means. I’ve enjoyed this book so far and I’m truly excited to read on and discover this books story further.
