Most
Memorable Moment Journal
By: Santhosh P.
In
my section of the novel, there have been many exciting and sorrowful
moments. The most memorable moment was when the main character Dantès
found tho buried treasure on the Island of Monte Cristo. I think this
was a huge changing point in his life and tells us that even though a
lucky man like Dantès was sent to prison for fourteen years he
hasn't lost his luck yet. He also had a clever way of getting there.
First he had to escape prison. He did this by taking the place of his
dead friend Busoni (the one who told him about the treasure) and
acting as though he was dead. The jailers shoved Dantès in a sack
and carried him and threw him in the ocean. Later a boat came by and
rescued Dantès. He said that he was a jailer who worked at the jail
“Château D’If” and that he would work for them. Later the
people on that boat needed to dock at Monte Cristo. Dantès got hurt
trying to kill goats and he told the other men that he wanted to rest
on the island. After they left he searched for the treasure and found
it. He couldn't believe it and was filled with joy: “After he had
touched them, fingered them, and buried his trembling hands in the
gold and precious stones, Dantès ran out of the cave with the wild
exaltation of a man who has come to the brink of madness (Dumas, 95).
At first he took a diamond and sold it. Later he bought a yacht and
went to Monte Cristo and locked up his jewels in a secret compartment
in his yacht. I think this is an important part in the novel because
it gives a reader of joy and happiness for Dantès and gives them
suspense on what will Dantès do with all the money that he found.
