The Count of Monte
Cristo
In the first couple of chapters of Monte Cristo the author
introduces the main characters. It starts off like any typical sailor
story with a young sailor coming home waiting to see his girlfriend.
Later we start to see characters like Danglers and Caderousse who
envy the sailor Edmond Dantes. The author also makes you feel sorry
for Edmond. At the end of Chapter 4 we see Edmond being sent to jail
but no one knows why. The setting is in Marseilles, France which I
guess brings in the romance element but is also interesting that it
is french literature and written by a French author. I think with the
line up of characters like these and the small conflict going on this
book sounds interesting and it keeps you guessing what might happen
next. The subject matter is different than what I have read in the
past and I would like to see the twist of this story. Reading the
first twenty pages was interesting and it makes me not mind that the
book is 500 pages long. The wording used in the story is very
descriptive and it places you in the mood of what is happening in the
story at that point. The book also has some complicating words but it
is easy to interpret with the flow of the story. At this point of the
story the tone seems to be bright but at some points the book starts
to get dark because of the characters behaviors and thoughts. Over
all I think the book so far is good and that there might be a sudden
change and that the book is about to get amazing.
